Minix 2 operating system Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Minix 2 working framework - Essay Example so after line no. 21021, pronounce these counters. Presently include hit_counter as I have said in the past doc. Furthermore, the time ought to be augmented each time any capacity in cache.c is called. So you should include variable time at 21070 and 21035 in the wake of having composed the code ++hit_counter and Time_requiredtofree_block++. Keep in mind, you need to include printf articulations any place you make an addition to these counters. Instate hit_counter and time to zero (this is significant). All things considered, I had composed two 'C' records named fil1.c and fil2.c, which included and deducted two numbers. At the point when I ran this announcement on bochs, I got the yield of the printf explanations. The trial of execution was a two stage process. In the initial segment, don't roll out any improvements to the Block_size and the Hash table, however incorporate the factors hit_counter and time. Run the order and see the outcomes. At that point increment the BLOCK_SIZE and the Hash table size and afterward run a similar order once more. You will discover an adjustment in the outcomes. The response to this lies being referred to 3. The primary arrangement of qualities was acquired for the factors hit_counter and Time_requiredtofree_block, when the estimation of BLOCK_SIZE and size of the hash table was 1024. The subsequent qualities were acquired when the size of BLOCK_SIZE and hashTable was expanded. I have discovered a couple of more focuses which you can utilize... The subsequent qualities were acquired when the size of BLOCK_SIZE and hashTable was expanded. 5) fifth it says instate the factors how and where Instate hit_counter and time to zero at line no. 21021, where you proclaim them. Scarcely any MORE FINDINGS I have discovered a couple of more focuses which you can use for your introduction. This is with respect to the Lru chain, which can be totally disposed of. Rather we can utilize a circularly connected twofold connected rundown. FRONT Turn Back The figure is somewhat unrefined, however I figure it can convey the thought. Frst, the rotate is associated with the hash table section. The FRONT is the end which contains those obstructs that are least required and the REAR contains those hinders that are normal sooner rather than later (same as LRU). Presently, this connected rundown has the additional favorable position at the hour of perusing the following square from this chain not at all like perusing from the plate through I/o. in this, the code can be composed with the end goal that the REAR is utilized as quick as the FRONT will be gotten to. This will guarantee that the presentation of the store is improved further over the LRU conspire. The explanation being that under LRU, for getting to a REAR, it needs to navigate as far as possible, while here, we could utilize sioimple rationale (like a banner where if flag=1 come front for example clockwise from turn or if flag=0, come back from rotate for example hostile to clockw ise). Trust me, this will accelerate the store. It is amazingly helpful, when under our adjusted code, adjoining squares will be gotten to from the circle. So the OS will see that the following essential square will be the coterminous one and it will put it at the REAR. At that point getting to under theis plan will be a lot quicker than the one under the LRU.Pls feel

20Th Century Music Essay Example For Students
20Th Century Music Essay By the turn of the century and for the next few decades, artists of all nationalities were searching for exciting and different modes of expression. In addition to new and eclectic styles of musical trends, the twentieth century boasts numerous composers whose harmonic and melodic styles an average listener can still easily appreciate and enjoy. The advance of technology has also had an enormous impact on the evolution of music in this century, with some composers using, for instance, the cassette player as a compositional tool or electronically generated sounds alongside classical instruments, the use of computers to compose music, and so on. Some important composers of the 20th century were Leos Janacek 1854-1928, Claude Debussy 1862-1918, Richard Strauss 1864-1949, Carl August Nielsen 1865-1931, Arnold Schonberg 1874-1951, Ralph Vaughan Williams 1872-1958, Maurice Ravel 1875-1937, Bela Bartok 1881-1945, Igor Stravinsky 1882-1971, Anton von Webern 1883-1945, Alban Berg 1885-1935, Sergei Prokofiev 1891-1953, Paul Hindemith 1895-1963, George Gershwin 1898-1937, Kurt Weill 1900-1950, Aaron Copland 1900-1990, Olivier Messiaen 1908-1992, and John Cage 1912-1992.

Thus, a sample essay on the topic of depression might not be entirely correct. There are many colleges out there that don't even include depression as a subject. According to Challenges Faced by Homeless Sexual minorities: Comparison of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered Homeless Adolescents With Their Heterosexual Counterparts, LGBT youths reported higher levels of depressive symptoms than did heterosexual youths ( Cauce, Cochran, Ginzler, Stewart, 2002). There are many reasons as to why social workers serve the LGBT community. Many of them do not have any resources such as a home, or proper health care. According to an article titled, Family Acceptance Project- Helping LGBT Youths, in Social Work Today, one the roles of a social worker is to ensure that the LGBTQ youth is able to maintain a healthy relationship with their family after coming out to family. According to Christina Reardon, the LGBTQ SOCIAL WORK author of the article, ââ¬Å" [Studies] show that that lesbian, gay, and bisexual youths whose families reject their sexual orientation and gender expression were at higher risk for several health problems as adultsâ⬠(2009). Another role is to inform the families on how to support the LGBT youth in their time of need. Social workers work anywhere from a micro level with an individual and/or their families, or at a mezzo level when working with groups such as HIV positive or depressed members of the LGBTQ community. There are many prevention strategies social workers use for the LGBTQ community. There are support groups for those who are discriminated against,, who feel lonely and isolated due to not coming out yet to peers and family, and even those who are HIV positive or have other mental health issues. There are also seminars on how to protect oneself against getting STDs and HIV/AIDS and on what to do in the case of being abused or discriminated against for being gay or lesbian. There are many advocacy groups in the LGBTQ community. There are advocacy groups for gay rights, marriage, adoption, discrimination, healthcare, and other issues. A popular advocacy organization in the LGBTQ community is GLSEN, or the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network. Founded 20 years ago, GLSENââ¬â¢s mission is to ââ¬Å"assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expressionâ⬠(2012). They have events such as the day of silence. The day of silence takes place every year on April 20 when students do not speak for an entire day to bring awareness to the harassment and discrimination faced by youths of the LGBTQ LGBTQ SOCIAL WORK community. When it comes to civil rights for the LGBTQ community, the Human Rights Campaign is well known. Founded in 1980 by advocates on behalf on the LGBTQ community, the mission of the Human Rights Campaign is to ââ¬Å" achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americansâ⬠(2011). A popular organization for LGBT adoption is the Family Equality Council. Founded on 1979, the Family Equality Council ââ¬Å"connects, supports, and represents the one million lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender parents in this country and the two million children they are raisingâ⬠(2012). Characteristics of the agencies that serve the LGBTQ community include many things. For example, the Howard Brown Health Center in Chicago offers many things to the LGBTQ community such as counseling, case management, and HIV/AIDS services. They also provide support for those victim of domestic abuse and those how are HIV positive. For younger patients, they have a youth center to help those who are homeless or feel unsafe. Another agency is the Center on Halsted in Chicago. Like Howard Brown they also offer HIV testing and support for those who tested positive. Programs offered for the youth includes after school programming and counseling (2012). Agency visit/social work interview section For this project, I interview a woman named Lise Schiffer, LCSW. I was not able to visit her due to her location however, I was able to email her questions about her profession and her private practice. Lise Schiffer graduated from Sarah Lawrence College and then went LGBTQ SOCIAL WORK to Columbia University School of Social Work in New York City. She has an MSSW in clinical social work. She has been exclusively in private practice for 16 years. Prior to that, She was the Director of Substance Abuse Services at Counseling Center of Lakeview and then Associate Director of Sarahs Inn, an Oak Park based domestic violence agency. When asked about her typical work day she stated, ââ¬Å" My typical day is not typical for most social workers. I have a home office, so I dont have to commute nor deal with the weather. I am self-employed so I dont have a boss. I have an average of 20 appointments a week doing therapy with individuals and couples, both gay and straight. I spend a fair amount of time dealing with insurance companies, which are the bane of my existence. That is by far the worst part of my job. â⬠When asked of what she enjoyed most about her job as a social worker she replied, ââ¬Å"One of the things I like most about social work is the great variety of experiences one can have in a career. You can choose to be a clinician, an administrator, a supervisor, a community organizer, etc. and work with a variety of populations and age groups. Another thing I like is hearing the stories of so many different people and having the privilege of helping them to improve their lives. I also love that social work allows you to work for yourself, if that is your goal. â⬠When I asked her if she had any advice to a prospective social worker she stated, ââ¬Å" Listen to people on their own terms, not through your own filter. Learn not to take things personally (either when you are idealized or blamed for something) but take personal responsibility for your mistakes and promptly acknowledge them. Understand that the work is a collaboration. You and your clients are equals. However, the relationship is LGBTQ SOCIAL WORK one sided in that it is all about the clients interests, not yours. Learn about different theoretical perspectives but dont adhere rigidly to a particular model. And finally, be yourself. â⬠When the interview concluded she simply stated, ââ¬Å"I will just add that I love my profession and would become a social worker all over again. â⬠When asked about her agency and what limitations there were, Schiffer stated, ââ¬Å"The biggest limitation has to do with the absurdities of the insurance companies. When asked for an example she said, ââ¬Å"For example, someone with BCBS (Blue Cross and Blue Shield) contacts me for services as I am in-network with that company, I go through a labyrinthine process of getting benefit information only to find out that they have farmed out behavioral health services to another company with whom I am NOT in network with (because the panel has been closed in Chicago for 20 years). Even though that company (UBH) does not pay the claim, the insureds deductible DOUBLES because I am not one of their providers. â⬠The only criteria Schiffer has is she will not work with anyone who has a history of violence. Reaction Journal When I was first assigned the field of the LGBT community, I was excited. I have always been a supporter of the community, especially since I have 3 family members that are gay and lesbian. However, I never really discussed anything about the LGBTQ community with either of my family members so I was nervous in asking for some assistance. I chose this population because I have always had an interest in the social work involved and my auntââ¬â¢s ex-girlfriend would tell me some of the stories from the agency she worked. Chicago. I was excited to interview an actual social worker that had worked with my aunt until he canceled last-minute leaving me having to find another social worker to interview. I had initially chose the Howard Brown Health Center because I had been there once before to visit my auntââ¬â¢s ex-girlfriend and read information on their programs. My interview with Lise Schiffer was very interesting and I learned a lot from her. My favorite part of her interview was the advice she gave to a prospective social worker, especially when she said, ââ¬Å"Be yourself. I did not like how I was not able to talk to Lise Schiffer more on her job and her private practice. I also did not like how difficult the previous social worker made this for me in having to find another social worker so last-minute. In my opinion, love is love. There is no right and wrong sexual orientation. Despite some of my family membersââ¬â¢ opinions, I feel we are not to judge and treat someone bad just because of who they are attracted to or who they decide to date. My values and beliefs intersect with the NASWââ¬â¢s code of ethics. When I become a social worker, I will pay special attention to the standards of cultural competence and social diversity which states, ââ¬Å"Social workers should obtain education about and seek to understand the nature of social diversity and oppression with respect to race, ethnicity, national origin, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, political belief, religion, immigration status, and mental or physical disabilityâ⬠(2012). I will also respect all clients, even those whose beliefs oppose mine.

How Many People Get a 34, 35, 36 on the ACT Score Breakdown
How Many People Get a 34, 35, 36 on the ACT Score Breakdown SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips We know that 36 is the best possible score on the ACT and that any score in the 30s is considered very good. But how good is a top score of 34, 35, or 36? And how many students earn these scores every year? In this post, we break down just how rare those top scores are and how many students get them each year. Learn how you can stand out in the application process with a top score- and how to raise your ACT score to get there. How Many Test Takers Get Top 1% ACT Scores? To do this analysis, we use the latest report from ACT, Inc., for the class of 2018, who took the ACT as sophomores, juniors, and seniors. If you want to read more ACT score statistics, you can check out the report yourself. In the class of 2018, 1,914,817 students took the ACT.The average composite score was 20.8 out of 36(for more onhow the ACT is scored, read our article). This means that a score of 21 or higher puts you above average. But if we consider 21 and up good scores (since theyââ¬â¢re above average), what would qualify as an amazing score? To find out, let's look at ACT percentiles- the rankings tied to composite scores. For example, a 90thpercentile score means you scored higher than 90% of test takers. On the ACT, 34 and up is the 99th percentile. So if you score 34 or higher, youââ¬â¢re in the top 1% of test takers! But exactly how many students earned a 33, 34, 35, or 36 in 2018? And which score is the rarest? Let's take a look: Score # of Students Percentage of All Test Takers 36 3,741 0.195% 35 14,928 0.780% 34 21,836 1.140% 33 26,930 1.406% Source:ACT.org Unsurprisingly, a perfect 36 is the rarest score of all- just 0.195% of all test takers earned a perfect ACT score. Roughly four times more students earned the next-highest score of 35. However, itââ¬â¢s still a very rare score that just 0.780% of test takers earned. Note that about six times more students earned a 34 than they did a 36. You can now see why 36 is so impressive- even among top scorers, such a score really sets students apart, particularly for the most competitive schools. How Many Test Takers Get Top 10% ACT Scores? From our article on ACT percentiles, you can learn that getting a 29 or higher means you are in the top 10% of scorers. So if 22 and up is good, and 33 and up is incredible, a score of 29 or higher would qualify as a great score. The breakdowns for ACT scores between 29 and 32 are as follows: Score # of Students Percentile 32 31,625 98 31 37,150 97 30 43,824 94 29 47,187 91 Source: ACT.org Note that, just like with the very top scores, the higher your ACT score gets, the rarer it is.You can probably see why raising your ACT score by just a few points can have such a big impact on your admission chances! Because admissions is all about comparing you with other applicants, the more unique you can make yourself, the better your chances of getting in will be. And the higher your ACT score is, the rarer it is! By How Much Should You Improve Your ACT Score? We know just how impressive top 10% ACT scores are, and how rare top 1% scores are. But what kind of score should you aim for? Should everyone go for a 36? By far the best way to figure out what ACT score to shoot for is to consider the average scores of admitted applicants to the schools you're applying to.Do this, and you'll be able to see exactly how high of an ACT score you'll need to get to help you stand apart from the crowd. Check out our in-depth guide for more tips on how to set an ACT goal score. That said, there are some general guidelines you should follow. Of course, you can always aim for perfection, but these goals are manageable and give all students a competitive ACT score. Here's what we recommend: If you have a score in the teens, work to get your score to at least 22. This will put you in the top half of test takers and really give a boost to your college applications. If you have a score in the low to mid-20s (22-27), although you're above average, retake the ACT and try to get 29.Getting to the top 10% of scorers canopen up a lot of scholarship opportunities. It'll also make your college applications that much more impressive, opening doors at selective colleges. If you have 29 or higher, raising your score by even just 2 or 3 points can give a huge boost to your percentile ranking. For example, going from just 29 to 31 takes you from the 91st to the 97thpercentile. Likewise, going from 30 to 33 takes you from the 94th to the 99th percentile- or from the top 6% to the top 1% of test takers! Once you get to 33 and up, you're inIvy League and competitive college territory.Again, a gain of just a few points on the ACT can make a big difference in your admission chances! But how feasible are these score increases? The truth is, itââ¬â¢s definitely possible to raise your ACT composite, as long as you study regularly and focus on your weak areas.Do this, and you could very well go from 17 to 25, 20 to 28, or even 25 to 35. For example, say you really struggled with plane geometry on your first round of the ACT and didnââ¬â¢t get any of these questions correct. Since plane geometry accounts for around 20% of all math problems, it has a big impact on your score. Don't let these types of questions keep you from getting a high score! (You can take official ACT practice testsif you want to see the kinds of questions the ACT asks, by the way.) Now, imagine your Math score was 23. If you work on plane geometry to fill in your content gap, even if you got just five more questions right, you could get a final Math score of 26. If you get all the plane geometry questions right this time and everything else stays the same, you could get a 28 on ACT Math! This says nothing of how your score could improve if you work on other content weaknesses, your pacing, and your test-taking strategies, too. If you can identify your weaknesses and work on fixing them, itââ¬â¢s not hard at all to improve your ACT composite score by several points! 4 Tips for Raising Your ACT Score Since you now have a clear idea as to the number of points you need in order to reach your ACT goal score, let's go over some helpful tips to help you raise your score. #1: Focus On Your Weaknesses As we discussed briefly above, focusing on your biggest content weaknesses and skills should be one of your top priorities as you prep for the ACT. To fix your weak points, you'll need to do the following: Attack more practice problems in your areas of weakness. Having ample quality materials with which to practice will give you more opportunities to hone your skills. Devote more time to your weak spots than you do to the skills and question types you're already comfortable with. This way you won't waste time going over the concepts you already know. Analyze your mistakesas well as any patterns in your mistakes. One good way to do this is to keep an errors journal in which you note all the errors you made on practice questions, what the right answers were, and how you were supposed to solve them. Do all of this and you'll not only figure out what you're weak in but also how you can shift your approach toward these types of ACT problems to help you score more points. #2: Practice Pacing Yourself Don't expect to raise your score if you don't know how to properly pace yourself. Learning how to use your time wisely is a major part of doing well on the ACT. As you likely already know, each section is timed differently; thus, the time you'll get per question willvary depending on the section. Here is an overview of the time you'll have per section and per question on the ACT: Section # of Questions Time per Section Time per Question English 75 45 minutes 36 seconds Math 60 60 minutes 60 seconds Reading 40 35 minutes 52.5 seconds Science 40 35 minutes 52.5 seconds Writing (Optional) 1 essay 40 minutes 40 minutes You'll have the longest amount of time per question on the Math section, and the shortest amount of time per question on the English section. Typically, you don't want to spend more than this average time per question on any one question. However, if you're not aiming for a perfect score, you should be able to guess on at least a few questions in each section without it heavily affecting your score. #3: Learn Key Test-Taking Strategies There are tons of strategies you should know before you take the ACT. These tips teach you things such as the following: How to approach and understand questions fast How to effectively use the information you're given How to guess on a question to give yourself the best chance of getting it right Our guide to the top ACT test-taking strategies goes over some of the most helpful tips to know for test day. Briefly, though, here are a few of the most important ones: How to use the process of elimination When to plug in answers and plug in numbers on Math problems How to read passages on Reading, English, and Science #4: Take Full-Length Practice Tests If you're not taking full-length ACT practice tests, get to it. ACT, Inc., offers five free practice tests you can download as PDFs.I suggest sticking mainly with official tests as these are guaranteedto give you a highly realistic test-taking experience. What's more, they're all free! In terms of prep, try to space out your practice tests throughout your ACT study plan. Take one at the beginning of your study schedule to get your baseline score (the score you start with before engaging in any prep), and then take the others intermittently throughout your study plan. You'll essentiallyuse practice tests to determine your weaknesses and strengths. Make sure to take each test in a quiet room to give you a realistic experience. Also, time yourself in accordance with the official ACT time limits described above; doing this will raise your stamina so that you don't run out of energy on the actual test! Whatââ¬â¢s Next? Assignment Example Friedan wrote about the way American women who were housewives felt. They felt that they never defined themselves as to whom they were. The women felt that they had no career to identify themselves with; they needed to adjust their role as housewives. Cleaver argued that the White woman-Blackman sickness/problem needed to be brought to the open, dealt with and resolved (Cleaver 27). He concluded that, black men who had been brought up in America could experience the problem of not preferring their fellow black women, but instead prefer white women. He says that in the end, the black may feel as if he betrayed his race, and end up hating the white women. According to Friedan, the nameless problem was that of women housewives not defining whom they were, instead they engaged themselves in housewife business all the time. This problem made them seek medical intervention, only to find that the cure was adjusting their role as housewives (Friedan

Adult Illiteracy :: Adult Illiteracy Essays
"Learning to read is like learning to drive a car. You take lessons and learn the mechanics and the rules of the road. After a few weeks you have learned how to drive, how to stop, how to shift gears, how to park, and how to signal. You have also learned to stop at a red light and understand road signs. When you are ready, you take a road test, and if you pass, you can drive. Phonics-first works the same way. The child learns the mechanics of reading, and when he's through, he can read. Look and say works differently. The child is taught to read before he has learned the mechanics ââ¬â the sounds of the letters. It is like learning to drive by starting your car and driving ahead. . .And the mechanics of driving? You would pick those up as you go along." ââ¬âRudolf Flesch, "Why Johnny Still Can't Read," 1981 Illiteracy in America is still growing at an alarming rate and that fact has not changed much since Rudolf Flesch wrote his best-selling expose of reading instruction in 1955. Illiteracy continues to be a critical problem, demanding enormous resources from local, state, and federal taxes, while arguments about how to teach children to read continue to rage within the education research community, on Capitol Hill, in business, and in the classroom. The International Reading Association estimates that more than one thousand research papers are prepared each year on the subject of literacy, and that is very likely a low figure. For the past 50 years, America's classrooms have been used by psychologists, sociologists, educationists, and politicians as a giant laboratory for unproven, untried theories of learning, resulting in a near collapse of public education. It is time we begin to move away from "what's new" and move toward "what works." The grim statistics According to the National Adult Literacy Survey, 42 million adult Americans can't read; 50 million can recognize so few printed words they are limited to a 4th or 5th grade reading level; one out of every four teenagers drops out of high school, and of those who graduate, one out of every four has the equivalent or less of an eighth grade education. According to current estimates, the number of functionally illiterate adults is increasing by approximately two and one quarter million persons each year. This number includes nearly 1 million young people who drop out of school before graduation, 400,000 legal immigrants, 100,000 refugees, and 800,000 illegal
